A lifelong passion for photography
The child of Czech immigrants, Lik was born and grew up with his family in Melbourne, Australia. For his eighth birthday, his parents gave him a Kodak Brownie camera, opening his eyes to looking at the world in an entirely new way. Lik took to photography instantly, beginning a lifelong passion for capturing the beauty of nature in all its forms.
In the mid-1980s, Lik traveled to the United States on an ambitious project to photograph the landscapes of all 50 states. Lik followed up his adventure across America by spending years traveling through the rugged outback of his native Australia, documenting places few humans had seen. Along the way, he earned his now-legendary reputation for capturing breathtaking panoramic landscapes.
Achieving his profession’s highest honors
The Professional Photographers of America and the Australian Institute of Professional Photography have both awarded Lik the honor of Master of Photography. This makes Lik one of the only photographers in the world to be recognized with the honor on two continents. He also has been awarded a fellowship with the British Institute of Professional Photography, the organization's highest level of achievement.
Lik's work can be seen in public galleries around the world as well as in some of the world's most elite private collections. Professional athletes, Hollywood actors and some of rock’s biggest stars are among the many collectors of his work, not to mention the Queen of England and several American presidents.
